Costica Dumbrava is postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Political Science of Maastricht University and the executive coordinator of the Maastricht Centre for Citizenship, Migration, and Development (MACIMIDE). He is also citizenship expert for the European Union Democracy Observatory on Citizenship (EUDO Citizenship). Dumbrava has a PhD in Political and Social Sciences from the European University Institute and MA degrees in European Union Studies (Leiden University) and Nationalism Studies (Central European University).

Dumbrava's areas of expertise include citizenship, migration, nationalism, and society & technology. His book entitled 'Nationality, Citizenship and Ethno-Cultural Belonging: Preferential Membership Policies in Europe' was published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2014. He has also published articles in international journals, such as the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies and Ethnic and Racial Studies, as well as a series of studies, expert reports and analyses.
